The White House just released the 2025 National Security Strategy… and I actually read all 33 pages.
Most people in Washington won’t touch this thing unless it’s summarized by an intern, but I spent my flight home from a NATO cyber warfare exercise in Estonia digging through every line. And wow… this document swings from strategic clarity to political messaging to “Did someone’s Facebook uncle ghostwrite this?”
In this video, I break down the NSS into three parts:
THE GOOD
Clear priorities, honest admissions about past failures, a realistic view of China, industrial base revitalization, and a refreshingly blunt acknowledgment of foreign influence operations.
THE BAD
Ideology masquerading as strategy, weird panic about “foreign voting blocs,” and a Monroe Doctrine reboot that feels like the Banana Wars with better branding.
THE UGLY
Talk of “civilizational erasure,” throwing out climate risk planning, and surprising optimism about Iran, Hamas, and Syria that borders on delusion.
This strategy will shape U.S. policy for years—and it sends a clear message to Russia, China, and Venezuela:
“Playtime in our hemisphere is over.”
I also give my best William Spaniel impression, a Feral Historian rant about empires pretending to be the good guys, and my usual warning that America might not be the hero of the story… just the least-bad villain.
