as posted by the channelThe Ministry of Youth Development has partnered with UNICEF to celebrate World Children’s Day on Nov. 20. World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s annual day of action for children, by children. Climate change, education, mental health, and ending racism and discrimination are some of the concerns facing kids today.
To celebrate this occasion youth workers planned a series of activities which include a rally and healthy lifestyle sessions.
Youth worker, Nazan Hutchinson, attached to the Youth Division within the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, explained why it is important for children to engage in meaningful activities.
“We will be hosting a children’s day fair on the Marigot Playing Field. We chose Marigot and the Roseau Valley in particular, because of the high rates of violence in the community. We want our children to come out and have fun because they need some kind of activity where they can just be children.”
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports will host several World Children's Day activities in communities island wide from November 18 - 21. They include a picnic and art party, school drives at Castries primary schools, a fun sports day at the Gros Islet Primary School and rallies, amongst other events.
