"Days after a Casa Grande high school drew backlash for publishing a controversial senior quote in its 2018 yearbook, a Peoria charter school is in hot water for printing a student "award" parents are calling shocking and disgusting.
Sonoran Science Academy Peoria's yearbook lists a student with an Arabic name as "voted 'Most likely to bomb the U.S.'" next to his picture, according to photos of the page provided to The Arizona Republic.
The Republic was not immediately able to contact the student — who is not being named because he is a minor — or his family. But other Sonoran Science Academy parents said they were outraged the line had gotten through the editing process.
"This county is divided more than ever and to see this published, in a yearbook we now OWN unfortunately, is sickening," Kian Brown, whose daughter attends the school, wrote in a Facebook post.
"Whether it was a joke from this kid and the yearbook club or not, it’s wrong," he wrote, adding that he was "disgusted, furious, shocked, and disheartened that any person would think this is ok."
In another post, parent Jordyn Riddle wrote that people "should be uplifting kids, not making fun of them or feeding stereotypes.
"What happened to Class Clown and Best Dressed?" she asked."
