Kowalski from Nebraska calls in to give us the farm report. He said things are doing well for farmers right now. High prices of crops mean farmers might be content to stay home in the midterms.

Caller: Okay I kind of set that up as a joke Sam. But I really do appreciate your love of farming.

Sam: I want to know what the farm report is Kowalski from Nebraska.

Caller: So far things are looking like the projections over the summer prices have gone up marginally. because I think harvest is slightly lagging. so that is mostly weather-related. it looks like the crop is going to be fairly good but due to overall global supply prices should actually stay fairly high. and to that point maybe farmers will not be as politically engaged as coming in midterms. because well things are actually looking up. also, a lot of supply chain stuff is being figured out. so it's possible inputs could come down. fertilizer was going to be a big killer come spring but if they can get the shipping containers to china where we get most of our fertilizer it shouldn't be too bad.

Sam: do you hear anything about the shipping? I mean I met once like you know over the past year a some a shipping container broker and I should have taken their info to ask them because I feel like that's everything right now.

Caller: I don't know any personally but I do know that they cost about 2200 during normal times. because there's a lot of rail traffic that obviously goes through like the great plains in the midwest and so you just get these shipping containers all over the place and some people buy them for like sheds and whatnot. but yeah they're fairly cheap but I think the problem was is that a lot of supply chains went to areas that don't normally get the container.

Sam: That's exactly what happened the PPE got sent around the world and there's no way to get those back. because they're empty and so nobody's paying to ship them wherever back.

Caller: Yes and for whatever reason, you would think like the world trade organization or someone would have just said you know we'll just put the bill to get them back. because it would make the most sense. But I guess maybe no country wanted to really bite the bullet on that. but anyways yeah for the most part harvest is going fairly smooth you can check some of that out on you know the prairie fire youtube channel. but for the most part yeah things are actually looking up quite a bit. and is there anything, in particular, you wanted to know about harvest?

Sam: No. That's about it for me.
