as posted by the channelHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended California Sen. Dianne Feinstein against calls for her resignation on Thursday, saying that she doesn't remember a male member of Congress ever receiving as much scrutiny about their health.
Feinstein, 88, has missed a number of votes in recent months due to health issues. She was hospitalized in January for an infection and has also been diagnosed with cataracts.
Some Democrats have called on Feinstein to resign, saying that her health is preventing her from effectively serving in the Senate.
Pelosi, however, said that Feinstein is "still doing her job" and that she is "not going anywhere."
"I don't remember a male member of Congress ever receiving as much scrutiny about their health," Pelosi said. "I think it's really unfair.”
Pelosi also questioned the motives of people asking Feinstein to resign.
"I think it's really a question of who's behind this," Pelosi said. "I think it's a question of people who want to weaken the Democratic Party."
Feinstein has not said whether she plans to resign.
