as posted by the channelSenate HELP Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) delivered opening remarks before Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su's confirmation hearing on Tuesday. n his remarks, Sanders defended Su's qualifications, saying that she is "a champion for the working class of this country who will stand up to the forces of corporate greed."
Sanders also criticized Republicans for opposing Su's nomination, saying that they are "more interested in protecting the wealthy and powerful than they are in helping working people."
Later in the hearing, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) attempted to disprove Sanders's assertion that Su is qualified for the job. Mullin asked Su multiple questions about whether she has had any experience being an employer, including whether she has created or balanced a budget for a business and whether she has acquired or sold a business. Su responded that she has not had any experience as an employer, but that she has extensive experience in labor law and policy.
