Top Democrat Punts When Confronted About Feinstein's Future, Says 'It Is In Her Own Hands'

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said on Sunday that Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) decision about whether or not to resign is "in her own hands." Durbin, who is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that he has not spoken to Feinstein directly since she has come down with her recent health issues.

"I haven't talked to her directly," Durbin said on NBC's Meet the Press. "I've talked to her staff, and I know she's still engaged, but I think she's going to have to make that decision."

Feinstein, 88, has been in the Senate since 1992. She is the oldest and longest-serving woman in the Senate.

In recent months, Feinstein has been dealing with a number of health issues, including a fall that resulted in a concussion. She has also been criticized for her handling of the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Durbin said that he believes Feinstein is still capable of serving in the Senate.
