The CNN town hall was criticized by many because they felt that host Kaitlan Collins was too soft on Trump. Collins did not ask him tough enough questions, and she seemed to be more interested in giving Trump a platform to promote his own agenda than in holding him accountable for his actions.
The criticism of Collins's past work for The Daily Caller, and her performance in the town hall with Trump, is another sign that CNN is moving in a right-wing direction. Many see this as CNN trying to appeal to disgruntled Fox News viewers by giving them another conservative news source.
CNN employees were reportedly furious at the network's decision to give Trump a platform. The town hall was a ratings success for CNN, but it was also a public relations disaster. CNN’s town hall is a betrayal of its journalistic mission, and it further erodes the network's credibility.
