YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSouth Carolina Republicans are proposing legislation that would subject individuals who undergo an abortion to the state's homicide laws, potentially including the death penalty. The South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act aims to provide equal protection under homicide laws to unborn children. The bill defines a "person" as an "unborn child" at any stage of development from fertilization until birth. South Carolina law currently allows for the death penalty or a minimum of 30 years in prison for murder convictions. The bill includes exceptions for cases where the mother's life is threatened or where a licensed physician performs an abortion to prevent the death of the pregnant woman but unintentionally causes harm to the unborn child. The legislation, led by state Rep. Rob Harris, does not include exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

Yes hello, my name is Kristina from Aiken South Carolina. Kristina from Aiken South Carolina. What's on your mind? Well, I live in obviously. And are you guys aware of what the South Carolina State Senate wants to do regarding abortion? No, I have not heard. they're considering the death penalty for those who seek an abortion. Wow. Well I mean you know it's consistent with their ideology. And it will be revealing. I imagine the Supreme Court might… well I don't know if the Supreme Court would strike that down. Well actually a few months back the Supreme Court of South Carolina struck down the six-week abortion ban because of it being like a right to privacy issue. So I don't know how that's going to play a part. Since there was a six-week ban that McMaster implemented. Yeah, I don't know either. I was even thinking the federal Supreme U.S. Supreme Court would strike it down as maybe but I don't know. I don't know. I mean is it for doctors or for mothers or both. for mothers. I mean I don't think legislation like that will pass or be enacted or you know be upheld. I do think it's revealing. And I do think it is helpful to show people exactly what the mindset of these theocrats is. I mean honestly, I would be surprised they don't bring back stoning. Honestly yeah like you know I mean let's go full hog. I mean if they're going to be theocrats they should be theocrats. And it is clear. Now I haven't seen it. that we'll look we'll look for it .yeah I remember hearing about like last week and I was like oh great South Carolina did it again. yeah, I'm checking it out right now Business Insider state representative Rob Harris introduced the South Carolina prenatal equal protection act of 2023 last week which would make getting an abortion the same as committing a homicide. The bill had been pre-filed in December and now sits with the Judiciary Committee. I appreciate the call. no problem. Thank you for taking it.
