While acknowledging the writers' valid concerns and issues, Maher seemed remarkably unconcerned, asserting that they're not the only ones with problems and essentially implying that he's not willing to see the show miss an entire year, apparently at the expense of "below-the-line people." In response, the Writer's Guild of America expressed disappointment, hinting that the show's future might involve some rule-bending to circumvent the strike, with plans to picket the show in protest. It's worth noting that Maher had previously labeled the strike's demands as "kooky" on his podcast, asserting that writers aren't entitled to a living. This questionable stance places Real Time among other talk shows making their controversial comebacks, as Hollywood grapples with ongoing strikes and labor disputes.
