YouTube Description
as posted by the channelšØ 4 New Taxes Likely Coming in the Autumn Budget (and whoāll really pay them)
Labour say theyāve inherited a Ā£30 billion āblack holeā in the public finances, so whereās the money going to come from?
Hereās whatās being talked about (and what I actually think will happen) š
1ļøā£ National Insurance on Rental Income
Treasury advisors are seriously considering this.
Right now, rental income isnāt subject to NI, but the argument is simple, āwhy should someone earning Ā£50k in rent pay less NI than someone earning Ā£50k in wages?ā
Landlords already get punished by Section 24, taxed on turnover not profit. Add NI on top and rents will rise or landlords will sell up.
Short-term gain, long-term pain.
2ļøā£ Stamp Duty Replaced with an Annual Property Levy
Not a council tax replacement, but an annual property tax, around 0.5% of your homeās value.
Sounds fine until you realise youāll pay more over time if you stay put.
And for landlords? Youāll still pay stamp duty and the new annual levy.
Who really pays? Renters. Costs get passed straight down.
3ļøā£ VAT Threshold Cut
Talks of slashing the VAT threshold from £90,000 to £30,000.
That means thousands more small businesses dragged into the VAT net.
Itās red tape, less profit, and more pressure on entrepreneurs.
4ļøā£ Mansion Tax on Ā£2 Million+ Properties
A 0.5% annual tax on high-value homes, thatās Ā£12,500 a year on a Ā£2.5m house.
Sounds like it hits the rich, but in reality it punishes retirees who bought decades ago and are asset-rich but cash-poor.
š My Take
All four of these ideas have one thing in common, they donāt grow the economy, they just squeeze the people already producing.
You canāt tax your way to prosperity.
Back in 2008, Labour cut VAT to get people spending again. Thatās the kind of thinking we need now.
