Ep. 5092 – David Stockman on the Media and Establishment Hysteria over Syria – 10/14/2019

David Stockman discusses the outrage that has followed President Trump’s movement of a few dozen troops out of northeastern Syria. Stockman is quick to clarify that this is not even a withdrawal of troops, just a relocation from one part of the country into another, safer area. With this much hand-wringing from the mainstream media and the Israel lobby, how could Trump ever actually end a war? Scott and Stockman agree that the situation certainly looks grim, but remind us that Trump really does seem to have a knack for popular politics, meaning that he might realize his best avenue toward a second term would be steadily withdrawing U.S. troops around the world between now and the election.

David Stockman is the ultimate Washington insider turned iconoclast. He began his career in Washington as a young man and quickly rose through the ranks of the Republican Party to become the Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Ronald Reagan. After leaving the White House, Stockman had a 20-year career on Wall Street. He is the author of Trumped!, The Triumph of Politics, and his history of the financial crisis, The Great Deformation: The Corruption of Capitalism in America.
