Nov 17, 201530:43Now PlayingBarbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, spoke on the Senate floor urging colleagues to vote against S.J. Res. 23 and S. J. Res. 24, which respectively block carbon pollution standards for new, modified and reconstructed power plants, and the President’s Clean Power Plan for existing power plants. The resolutions also prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency from undertaking similar rulemaking to address carbon pollution, and Republicans have yet to produce an alternative plan of their own. The Clean Power Plan is projected to cut emissions from existing power plants 32% below 2012 levels by 2030, produce many public health and economic benefits, and contribute towards our nation’s leadership in tackling global climate change.
