Sen. McConnell spoke on the issue at AEI in June of 2012 highlighting the growing threat to free speech, particularly the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS, calling on Americans to unite in vigilant defense of the Constitution. While some on the Left dismissed his remarks then, the growing IRS controversy has shown the need for vigilance.
