We have to ask ourselves if we are in the business of punishment, or if we do have a duty of preventing crime and rehabilitating people. I am proud that the Lamoille Restorative Center and a number of other centers around Vermont are taking an alternative approach to the traditional criminal justice system and taking the profit motive out of it.
