Feb 26, 20192:17Now PlayingOn February 25th, Senator Chris Murphy convened a town hall with gun violence survivors and advocates from across the country for a conversation on the need for universal background checks. 97% of Americans support universal background checks, and this is a commonsense step that Congress can take to keep our communities safe from gun violence.
The panel included:
Congresswoman Lucy McBath (GA-06) - Congresswoman McBath first became active in public policy after losing her son Jordan to gun violence in 2012. She was elected to Congress in 2018.
Jaclyn Corin - Jaclyn currently serves as the Director of Outreach for March for Our Lives where she has helped to galvanize an entire generation of young people in the fight against gun violence.
Pastor Brenda Mitchell - Brenda is a member of the Everytown Survivor Network. Her son Kenneth was shot and killed in 2005.
David Chipman - David served 25 years as a special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). He currently serves as a Senior Policy Advisor at Giffords.
Mark Barden - Mark is the managing director of Sandy Hook Promise. His son Daniel was killed at the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school.
