6:00Now PlayingJuly 12 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, deliver's remarks in a Budget Committee hearing entitled, “Protecting Social Security for All: Making the Wealthy Pay Their Fair Share.”
Social Security is one of the most successful—and popular—programs in the United States. The benefits, which workers earn by contributing throughout their working lives, help support elderly Americans, disabled workers, and children and ensure that all who pay into the system can retire with a guaranteed paycheck.
New analysis released yesterday by the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Chief Actuary found Senator Whitehouse’s Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act, which abides by President Biden’s pledge not to raise taxes on those making less than $400,000, would extend Social Security solvency indefinitely.
