Earlier this fall, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to ban WeChat, as part of its crusade to wipe Chinese apps off the market in the US. While similar actions against TikTok got more publicity, banning WeChat would cut off millions of Chinese diaspora members from their loved ones — and experts also say it will also cost Americans money. In mid-October, a US District Court judge denied the Justice Department ban. But that wasn’t the end of the fight.
