Juneteenth, aka Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day, celebrates the official end of slavery via the emancipation of the last few slaves in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. Though it's been celebrated by many African Americans for years, the holiday recently began getting national attention. This past week, President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, which officially made Juneteenth a federal holiday.
