Peterborough Model Railway Exhibition 2011 HD

This is my video log of the various Model Railway layouts that were at the Peterborough Model Railway Exhibition 2011 event this year. Thanks goes to all model railway clubs that granted me full permission to film their fantastic layouts. I think I have mainly filmed N gauge layouts as there wasn't many OO gauge model railways to film but I did manage to film a couple of O gauge trains as well which are impressive for detail and size. There is a couple of modern image layouts in N gauge that I found really impressive such as Shaweport, Dragonby and Newcastle-by-the-Water. Well here is the layouts shown in this order on the video.

Uppingham: EM Gauge.

This layout is quite a classic one as construction started some 35 years ago. It is based on a segment of the Rugby - Peterborough line and it is set in around the early 1900's which therefore makes it a steam era layout. Sadly though, nothing was running on the layout. So I only briefly filmed the scenery and then moved on.

Shaweport: N Gauge

This modern image layout is set in the mid-1990's right through to present day operations and it has a high density of rail traffic ranging from DMU's to HST's as well as various types of Freight to keep things interesting. This layout has not one but two N gauge Class 92's that are from CJM models. Other freight was hauled by Dapol Class 66's, Graham Farish Class 60's, Dapol Class 58 with Passenger trains with Class 90's, Class 87's and Class 86's with DMU's such as the Class 150, Class 153 and the Class 158 all keeping the scene busy. There is also a scratch-built Class 323 in the GMPTE livery which is unique and it fits in nicely on the layout as it captures the shape of the actual units quite well. One of my top favourite layouts and the chaps who were operating it were very friendly and I enjoyed having a conversation with them after I finished filming their fantastic layout.

Ynysarwed Sidings: N Gauge.

This is a welsh themed layout set in 1970's utilising BR Blue locomotives (mainly shunters) and it is a fictional based layout set in South Wales. The locomotive seen in action is a Class 08 in BR Blue livery with a seacow ballast wagon. I have been informed by the crew that all the locomotives have a scratch-built chassis. Nice layout and I do like the scenery on this one also.

Rothampton: OO9 Gauge

This is OO9 narrow gauge layout as although the rolling stock is modelled into the common OO gauge 1:76 scale. The track and the chassis of trains is in N gauge to replicate narrow gauge track. The line is single track with a terminal station that has a "run-round" loop. The Railcar looks nice and these railcars would have a gearbox with a switch compared to the modern stuff. There is a freight train as well powered by a slimline Class 03-looking shunter, it was running a little rich though as the loco-shunter was driven by a junior operator. Well we all have to start off in the hobby somewhere.

Dragonby: N Gauge

This is my top favourite layout and it features my beast 60011 on it in DB Schenker livery which was running with a JGA train as the operator honoured my request. The layout is a modern image era model railway set in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands (so its quite local to my location then ;)) and is a fictional setting. The rolling stock seen on the layout stationary or moving in the background is a Loadhaul Class 60 as 60059, EWS/GWR Class 60 as 60081 coupled to my beast 60011 in DB Schenker livery which is seen running later. A GBRF Class 66 and a 153 is also seen at the start of this footage of the layout too. Then a EWS Class 66 (I think all the Class 66 models are by Dapol) is seen on a scrap metal train and a Dapol EWS Class 67 is seen hauling a Farish GNER 225 set on a diversion through the main line. A Farish Class 43 HST in the old Midland Mainline livery is seen propelling along the open line a moment later with the arrival of a East Midlands Trains Class 156 pulling into the station as a double set. 60054 in Petroleum livery hauling some BP tankers is also filmed in action on the layout and then we have a closer glance at my beast 60011 in DB Schenker livery briefly before things liven up with a Fastline Class 66 and a Northern Rail Class 158 pacing against each other on the layout. Then another shot of the Class 67 hauled GNER 225 set from a different angle before I filmed 60081 and 60011 leave the spur bound for the switchyard so that 60011 can work the requested train. Another view of the MML HST that is passing through the station and a Dapol Class 153 in Central Trains livery arriving with local service pulling into the station with my beast 60011 passing by at the back of the station with a rake of covered JGA granite wagons. 60011 is a customised model that has been professionally repainted into the DB Schenker livery with light weathering and I personally think it looks great.
