18:08Now PlayingIn this Hot Question, retired FBI Special Agent Scott Payne explains how his teenage involvement in Satanism later collided with his undercover work inside a violent white supremacist group. Payne says his fascination with witchcraft and evil began around age 13 and ended after he saw what he describes as a demonic figure while pretending to be possessed. Terrified, he walked to church the next morning and never returned to devil worship.
Years later, undercover as “Pale Horse,” Payne infiltrated The Base and found himself in the Georgia woods on Halloween night during a ritual goat sacrifice. He describes members killing the animal, collecting its blood, and using the ritual as part of an extremist ideology built around violence and belonging.
Payne says the same forces that once drew him toward darkness as a teenager, power, identity, and the need to belong, were also present in the people he later investigated.
