Robotics and AI expert Byron Boots joins Shawn Ryan to reveal how autonomous ground vehicles could transform modern warfare. Drawing on more than a decade at the cutting edge of machine learning and robotics, Boots explains how Overland AI is building vehicles capable of navigating contested terrain without human drivers while carrying supplies, sensors, drones, electronic warfare systems, and weapon payloads. He also recounts his path from earning a PhD in machine learning at Carnegie Mellon and working on robotics at NVIDIA to leading the winning team in DARPA’s RACER program and founding Overland AI. Boots breaks down the company’s first U.S. military production contract for autonomous ground vehicles, how the technology could remove soldiers from dangerous missions like resupply and breaching, and his vision of a future battlefield where a single operator could coordinate hundreds of robotic vehicles much like units in a real-time strategy game.
