It may not have been the "great victory" that Donald Trump claimed but the president didn't take the beating that some were expecting in America's midterm elections.

His party lost control of half of Congress - but strengthened its hold on the other half.

He exerted his power by forcing his Attorney General to resign.

His Democrat opponents say that is a "blatant attempt" to undermine the investigation into allegations of collusion with Russia.

And it wasn't the first fight of the day the president picked.

He belittled members of his own party who lost at the election and verbally attacked journalists.
