One mother made the decision to leave everything they own behind and head to Mexico after they were told they would be murdered.
She informed on a gang member who she knew had killed two people. It was a tough decision.
The gangster was her brother, now in prison, but she worries about retribution from his gang.
They dream of getting to the United States and their claim is supported by the authorities in El Salvador.
She told Sky’s Stuart Ramsay: "We are waiting until we know what the authorities in America say.
"I'm taking care of my family here, just us two and the baby. I'm going to hang on until we get an answer."
Tijuana mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum said 2,750 migrants had arrived but the federal government estimated the number could reach 10,000.
US border patrol staff are processing about 100 claims for asylum a day at Tijuana's frontier with San Diego.
