3:09Now PlayingThe protests against Sudan's President began last year but the roots go back much further.
After decades of civil war and the Darfur conflict in 2003, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011.
But most of Sudan's oil fields were in the south, and combined with US sanctions, the country's economy was crippled.
Protests against President Bashir's government began in December after inflation reached 70% and the cost of bread and fuel rocketed.
The military has arrested and detained President Bashir after nearly 30 years in power.
A transitional military council took over but the new leader stepped down after protesters demanded a civilian government, meaning Sudan has now had three leaders in less than a week.
Sky's chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay is in Khartoum and sent this report.
