3:30Now PlayingConservative MPs have voted to stop their colleague, former Cabinet minister Owen Paterson, being suspended from the House of Commons despite an 'egregious' breach of lobbying rules.
Mr Paterson was facing a 30-day suspension for breaching lobbying rules for two companies, both of which paid him more then £100,000.
But the Conservatives backed an amendment which will instead see a new committee set up to examine the standards system and take another look at the case against him.
The Committee on Standards was made up of cross-party MPs with no single one in majority, but will now be replaced by a Conservative-led one.
