as posted by the channel

Government scientists Sir Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance have warned that the coronavirus pandemic is not over globally, and the need for surveillance remains.

England's Chief Scientific Officer Sir Patrick Vallance emphasised the danger of new variants, which can emerge spontaneously at any time around the world.

He said that they may 'not necessarily be less serious that the Omicron variant', either through the intrinsic medical effect or any potential increase in strain on the NHS.
