YouTube Description
as posted by the channelHome Secretary Priti Patel has permanently lifted restrictions on police stop and search powers to tackle violent crime.
The changes will see extended time lengths that the powers can be enforced for, taking the previous 15 hour window to 24 hours and the extension period to 48 hours, instead of the previous 39.
The law, under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, gives police officers the right to search people without reasonable ground when serious violence is expected.
But the wider use of stop and search remains controversial, over concerns that it is used disproportionately against black and other minority groups.
