Mr Lewis said he was surprised to hear "that particular turn of phrase, because obviously we can all see that prices can move... one way or another relatively speedily."
A poll for Sky News suggests many are trying to skip meals, borrow money or go out less to make ends meet. A large number of people have also switched off heating to lower energy bills.
