9:48Now PlayingShadow armed forces minister Luke Pollard MP says the government is not dealing with "the fundamental problem" by seeking to house migrants in old military facilities.
Mr Pollard said the asylum system is "broken", with decisions taking too long and unsuccessful applicants often not being sent home.
Labour would set out to "fast track" migrants from safe countries, such as Albania, to reduce the backlog he said, with only 1% of asylum cases being decided last year.
