The government has missed its target of eliminating 18-month waits for routine treatment on the NHS in England.

Figures from NHS England show that nearly 11 thousand people have been waiting more than a year and a half for planned care, such as knee and hip replacements.

The data also shows that the number of people in England waiting to start routine treatment has risen to a record high of 7.3 million.
