as posted by the channel

Vodafone last week announced plans to merge with Three UK in what would be the biggest reshaping of the mobile telephony market in more than a decade.

The third and fourth largest operators in the sector would become the biggest player by getting together - leapfrogging EE and Virgin Media O2. It would have nearly 28 million customers and be worth at least £16.5bn.

But it faces a lengthy investigation by both the Competition and Markets Authority and will require approval under the UK National Security and Investment Act.

Vodafone UK Chief Executive, Ahmed Essam, told Ian King the merger will "accelerate growth and investments in the UK."
