57:29Now PlayingHealth Secretary Steve Barclay is to make a statement to the House of Commons regarding the inquiry into the Countess of Chester Hospital.
On 31 August 2023, the government announced the inquiry into the murders carried out by former neonatal nurse Lucy Letby will be made statutory, with judges given the power to compel witnesses.
Mr. Barclay confirmed the move following calls from lawyers of the bereaved families to put the inquiry on a statutory footing so there was "nowhere to hide".
Letby is serving 14 whole-life orders after she was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.
