At the "Rally for Growth" organised by former PM Liz Truss yesterday, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg said he had asked her to impose a flat rate of tax at 20% across all income brackets. But it was rejected, he said because it was "too radical even for her".

When asked about the proposal, Sir Jacob told Sky News if "a number of" tax reliefs were cut, the tax rate would raise money for the Treasury and leave more cash in people's pockets.
