Israel's ambassador to the UK Tzipi Hotovely has told Sky News that the large-scale surprise attack launched by Hamas militants on the country was the "hardest day" experienced by Israelis in their lifetime and that the attack is on a "new scale".

Ms Hotovely said the "number one priority" is to bring back people who have been taken hostage.

At least 250 Israelis and more than 230 Palestinians are dead after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel.

The Israeli embassy has confirmed one British National is missing after an attack on a festival in southern Israel. Jake Marlowe has not been heard from since yesterday morning.
