2:59Now PlayingPrime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to remove Kashmir's special status has proved deeply unpopular in the region - but people who speak out against him have to do so in hushed tones for fear of retribution.
In previous elections in India, Mr Modi has campaigned across the country about removing the special status (Article 370) and bringing security to the region.
However, Mr Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have decided not to contest this year's general election there.
