Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has told Sky News that decriminalisation should not be ruled out to help people who are turning to drugs.

It comes as the Scottish government is due to open the UK's first legal drugs consumption room, a location that will allow users to take narcotics while under medical supervision.

The aim is to reduce the number of drug deaths in the city.
