10:46Now PlayingReform UK's deputy leader Richard Tice insists James McMurdock's election is a "story of redemption" after it emerged the Basildon MP kicked a girlfriend.
Court records seen by The Times showed Mr McMurdock kicked his girlfriend at the time "around four times" during an assault in 2006 when he was 20 years old
He was sentenced to 21 days in a young offenders' institute.
