1:46Now PlayingA major winter storm, which is expected to last for days, has hit the US, producing heavy snow, significant ice, and plunging temperatures.
Road conditions have become increasingly dangerous in central America over the weekend, with snow in the most heavily affected regions - Kansas and northern Missouri - predicted to reach as much as 35.6cm.
Almost 60 million people are under weather alerts across 30 states, while Kansas, Arkansas, Kentucky and Virginia have declared states of emergency as the storm, which is being driven by a polar vortex, moves east.
