The group has been accused of crimes against humanity on the basis of gender, and the repression of women and children.
The ICC's most high profile and controversial act came just a few months ago, when it issued arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the then defence minister, Yoav Gallant. Further warrants were issues for the leadership of Hamas.
The accusation was that Netanyahu's government oversaw the use of starvation as a method of war in Gaza, along with directing attacks on the civilian population.
All accusations the Israeli government vehemently denies.
