Former NATO secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen tells Sky News that Europe needs to be able to stand on its "own feet” as it can no longer count on assistance from the US.

He says Europe should create a "coalition of the willing" and deploy European troops in Ukraine "backed by the US" as this would be a "strong deterrent" for Putin.

Mr Rasmussen goes on to say Donald Trump "wouldn’t like to be portrayed as a loser" and that "as a businessman, he should know that to get a good peace deal, you need to have some leverage". This leverage being to “strengthen the hand of the Ukrainians”.
