The UN’s Under-Secretary-General has called for an end to the hostilities in Gaza following a series of Israeli airstrikes.

Gaza officials report that more than 400 people have been killed in the attacks, which marked the end of a two-month ceasefire.

Israel’s government says that the airstrikes were launched in response to Hamas’s refusal to release the remaining hostages.
