In an interview with Sky's Wilfred Frost, Ms Nandy was asked if she feared a global recession could be on the horizon.
She responded: "Well, we don't think a trade war is in anyone's interests, and what we're doing is keeping a cool head, working with our allies."
She went on to say the UK is "a trading nation" and emphasised "it's in our interest to continue to be able to trade".
