3:55Now PlayingBusiness Secretary Jonathan Reynolds say his previous criticism of Chinese involvement in the steel sector was focused on one company - not Beijing.
Mr Reynolds told Trevor Phillips on Sunday he would not "personally bring a Chinese company into our steel sector" again.
However, speaking to Sky News today, he said he was "really keen to stress the action we've taken here was to step in because it was one specific company that I thought wasn't acting in the UK's national interest".
Earlier, the industry minister Sarah Jones told Sky News the government could not rule out China's continued involvement in British Steel.
The government took control of the Scunthorpe plant at the weekend after the Chinese firm Jingye said the operation was no longer economically viable.
