The Supreme Court today addressed one of society's most debated questions: What defines a woman?

In a comprehensive 88-page ruling, the court concluded a legal dispute between the Scottish government and the advocacy group For Women Scotland.

The group had argued that the definition of "woman" should strictly refer to those born female.

The five-judge panel ruled unanimously in favour of the campaigners, stating that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.
