A power outage that shut Heathrow Airport earlier this year, was most likely caused by a "catastrophic failure" of equipment in a nearby substation, according to a new report.

Around 1,300 flights were cancelled and more than 270,000 air passenger journeys were disrupted.

Speaking to Sky News, Chief Executive of the National Energy System Operator, Fintan Slye said: "It was a really significant event that impacted lots of people in the local community...events like this are incredibly rare."
