11:29Now PlayingCabinet Office minister Nick Thomas-Symonds has insisted to Sky News government policies to stop migrants illegally crossing the Channel are "making a significant difference".
He was speaking ahead of a meeting between the French leader Emmanuel Macron and Sir Keir Starmer.
It has been widely reported that a "one in, one out" deal is being thrashed out, which would mean the UK would accept one legitimate asylum seeker from France, in exchange for them taking back one illegal immigrant who crossed on a small boat.
Mr Thomas-Symonds refused to comment on the reports.
