Donald Trump has said he thinks it would be acceptable for the US military to bomb targets in Mexico to tackle the illegal drugs trade.

The US president made the comments after the proposal was suggested to him by a reporter.

It came during a question-and-answer session in the White House following a news briefing on next summer's World Cup, which the US is co-hosting with Mexico and Canada.

Trump said: "Would I launch strikes in Mexico to stop drugs? It's OK with me. Whatever we have to do to stop drugs...

"I looked at Mexico City over the weekend, there's some big problems over there."
