8:58Now PlayingCulture Secretary Lisa Nandy has spoken about the U-turn the government has announced that the Employment Rights Bill will introduce unfair dismissal protections after six months of employment, rather than from day one.
Nandy denies that the bill is a "shell" of its former self, and says the current form is a result of consensus.
She added: "We reached an impasse in the House of Lords, and there was a genuine debate between business leaders and trade unions about the right balance to be struck."
Nandy continued: "We proposed that that should start on day one, that now, as a result of the compromise that has been reached between union representatives and business leaders, will be set at six months."
