Health secretary Wes Streeting has said the planned strikes for resident doctors "shows shocking disregard for patient safety".

Resident doctors are set to walk out for five days from Wednesday, but Streeting is urging them to ignore the Christmas strikes and help the soaring number of patients being admitted to hospital with flu.
